ELLE porte. 2018.

Through the arts, mainly from cinema and (fashion) magazines, Lou’s image was shaped into “what a woman is.” Ignorant of whether she should have raised the question “do I know what a woman is” or “is this a manual about how we should behave as women in this society”.

What we see through these media channels is fiction. From a cultural point of view, women are seen as “continuation of the species”. The mother with the child, round shapes sculpt the woman and symbolize fertility. But in cinema the woman is brittle, naive, innocence like a child and a danzel in destress. She must be seduced or manipulative to get her way to survive in this world.
The man is strong and smart, he saves the woman to win her over. The woman has little to say in this and she falls in love with that one man. Sometimes with some counterparts to stretch the temptation process on screen. It is a conceived world that has been created, consisting mainly of men … because cliches simply work well.

The forms of women in the magazines have disappeared and more and more women are starting to look like men. The woman no longer has a fertility function, but must yield and sell. Be successful like the man. A woman can never be a man or vice versa, the differences are too big biologically. Despite the many sex operations and discussions about equality, they will never be the same.

ELLE porte is an ode to “being feminine” in contemporary society.
